Students enrolled in the BCPS Online Learning Program are required to participate in all state and federally-mandated assessments listed below. With that, families will be responsible for the transportation to, and coordination with, the respective BCPS Zoned School to ensure testing expectations are met.
Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP)
The Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) includes state and federally required assessments in:
- English Language Arts/Literacy
- Mathematics
- Social Studies and Government
Maryland Integrated Science Assessment (MISA)
The Maryland Integrated Science Assessment (MISA) serves as Maryland's state science assessment and is administered to students in designated grade levels and courses.
Testing Schedule
Typically, students in Grades 3-10 participate in state assessments between March and May each school year.
Required Assessments
Students are required to participate in the following assessments, as applicable:

Mathematics: Grades 3-8 Mathematics and Algebra I (Geometry or Algebra II)
- English Language Arts: Grades 3-8 English Language Arts and English 10
- Social Studies: Grade 8 Social Studies and High School American Government

Science: Grade 5 Science, Grade 8 Science, and High School Living Systems
Graduation Requirements
Maryland graduation requirements include participation in assessments associated with the following courses:
- Algebra I
- English 10
- American Government
- Living Systems
Students must participate in these course-associated assessments to meet graduation requirements. In addition, all high school students must participate in at least one Mathematics assessment and one English Language Arts assessment during high school.
End-of-Course (EOC) Assessments
Beginning with students who entered high school as first-time freshmen during the 2023-2024 school year, the American Government and Living Systems assessments transitioned to End-of-Course (EOC) assessments. These assessments count for 20% of a student's Semester 2 transcript grade in the associated course.
