Class Updates
This academic year the social studies department will be focusing on providing students with the knowledge and skills required to digest and interpret information from a variety of current media source and historical sources. Additionally, the Office of Social Studies has prioritized the discussion contested issues in the classroom as a countywide initiative. Teachers are encouraged to establish classroom norms as a method to model best practices for discussing and debating highly contested issues in a respectable manner to develop well informed citizens. Social media has greatly provided students with a platform to debate and discuss at much earlier age then students of the past. The ability to agree and disagree with peers, identify reliable and unreliable sources, and develop new ideas and learning from the opinions of others is increasingly becoming a skill that students need to be able to effectively navigate various social media platforms and the various contested issues they may encounter.
