In 7th Grade World History this quarter, we will be learning about major changes taking place around the world in the period before the Renaissance.  Specific lessons will cover topics including the Crusades, Genghis Khan, the Mongolian Empire, the growth of nations, and Joan of Arc.  We will continue to analyze documents, including primary and secondary sources, in order to have a better understanding of multiple perspectives throughout history.  Our DBQ this quarter will be, The Mongols: How Barbaric were the “Barbarians”?

In 8th Grade US History, we will work through Unit 3: Expansion and Sectionalism.  This unit will cover the major events of the early to mid-1800’s, including the topics of the War of 1812, Andrew Jackson, the Indian Removal Act, Westward Expansion, the Industrial Revolution, the institution of slavery, the Abolitionist movement, and sectionalism in the years before the Civil War.   We will continue to analyze documents, including primary and secondary sources, in order to have a better understanding of multiple perspectives throughout history.  Our DBQ this quarter will most likely be, “The California Gold Rush: A Personal Journal” or “Was the United States Justified in Going to War with Mexico?”

Personal Finance and Economic Theory is starting a new group of students. We are learning about economic theories like Law of Demand and Supply, Economic Indicators (GDP, CPI, Unemployment, etc), Fiscal Policy, Monetary Policy and how all of these impact students’ daily lives. The class will also start learning about Personal Finance in Unit 2 such as budgeting, personal taxes, insurance, and benefits before we move to the fourth quarter. 

This quarter in World History will start of examining European imperialism of Africa, Asia, and India and the impacts on those regions. World War I and its affects will wrap up 3rd quarter.
